about
I created the hounds & jackal project within my former studio, reimagining an ancient board game through a more luxurious and precious visual language. Also known as Fifty-Eight Holes, Hounds & Jackals is an ancient two-player race game built around opposing hound and jackal pieces, movement, chance and progression toward a final goal. I used this historical structure as the foundation for the film, focusing on the tension between two powerful animal figures and the symbolic weight of an object shaped by time, ritual and competition.
The project involved developing the design from multiple visual tests, refining the overall art direction, and handling the full edit, rendering and final look. The goal was to modernize the game without losing its ancient presence, combining the minimalism of luxury motion design with a sense of history, confrontation and material weight. Through controlled lighting, precious surfaces, restrained animation and careful pacing, the film aims to turn the board into more than a game object: a sculptural artifact charged with tension, power and memory.
